Against, I personally don't use social networking sites and if I do, I only visit it once a month or so, I don't really like them as Apolloz said, I much rather prefer MSN to talk with my friends.

I'm against as employers can use Facebook info to define whether or not they're willing to employ you (the stuff I put online isn't the sort of thing I want my future employer to look at). Also, at least in the US, information from Facebook can be referenced in a court of law and could end up getting you convicted of something you would not otherwise be guilty of. It's a dangerous site IMO. lol.

Ok that last bit is confusing me. Are you saying that innocent people are found guilty of crimes they didn't commit due to fadbook? Or are you saying people aren't getting away with crimes that they would have previously, because of fadbook?

I mean both. Either way it's evidence being used against you. I'm leaning towards innocent people convicted of fake crimes though, as it gives people more opportunity to manipulate the legal system to get you convicted of something so they can cash in. I'm sure there's stuff people would put on their facebook that might not even apply to their real lives.

Haha, come on. I'm not going to spend half my day surfing the internet on google trying to find some cry story on the internet that may or may not have any credibility. I'm just saying it has the potential to be used as evidence in court, something that has been done before (I know I can look that one up...), innocent or not.

I dislike social network sites. Friendships become dependent of it. If you do not send someone a greeting through facebook (or in holland www.hyves.nl) you risk losing a friendship
next to that people only care about the amount of friends. You are cool if you have 2000. Truth is you only know 5 of em
Also, the mails are annoying. spamspamspam and spam ''hello user! tomorrow a friend of ur friend is having his birthday''. Carebear!

The thing that I approve is that the creator is one of the richest young people on earth. And he EARNED his money for the idea. The other people in the top 10 got his money from their diseased parents who were rich

+1 on Helix.

Fun story, a friend of mine got 700 friends on facebook, he only knows 20 of them. One of the friends he did add and did not know was my brothers girlfriends friend and my friend have never met that person in his life. It is all about "being cool"

Totally for it. Honestly, unless you're anti-social, you should have because it's a great way to keep up with friends.

I just don't like how they keep changing the layout. It gets on the annoying side.

Oh yeah and did I mention, it's a lot better than myspace? So much cleaner, less cluttered and not full of balloted ######.

They shouldnt have done that in the first place. They are scaring away people like me.

And it seems that you now completely facebooked.
Why using a damn website while you can:

- msn, chat with em live
- sms, then they can read it immediatly
- call them, much more personal
- visit them irl, doesnt need any explaination.

The only reason why ppl use facebook is to impress other people. I mean why the heck would you look so cool on your facebook avatar?

Facebook has a chat built in. More people use facebook than msn. It would be a lot more convenient as you don't have to install another program. Also it's just another way to get a hold of someone if need be.

Text messaging is often delayed because of high volumes of texts that are being sent. Chat is much faster. Plus you may not know someone's number to ask them a homework question but you may be friends with them over facebook.

I call people anyways, like when I want to actually tell them something important

It's not like everything everyone does is over facebook. I often make plans to do something with friends over facebook. It's another communication tool. Which is why, I'm sure of this, some of you may feel out of the loop if the majority of your friends use facebook. A lot happens on it.

You'll find the value in facebook when you move away from home/your friends. None of the people I consider my "best" friends are really with in visiting distance. Most are 2 or more hours away, some on the other side of the world. When you have everyone living in a different time zone, working to different schedules with different commitments, it is hard to stay in touch. Its hard to dedicate an hour of your day to a phone call if you already have a fairly full schedule , whereas its easy just to leave someone a message and they can get back to you at their convenience, in more than 160 characters, and for free :D

Its also a fairly useful networking tool for business. In the film industry, standard procedure is to go through the call sheet and add everyone to your facebook after the shoot. That way when you're in desperate need of a focus puller, grip or camera op. you just stick "I need a * profession* for a shoot on *date* can anyone help?" and within a few hours you can have a couple of people interested, who you already have a working relationship with.

Having said that, I've been epically screwed by facebook, and my friend count is currently at 21. But (with one exception :P) they're 21 people that I value and want to remain in contact with.
