Yes, I remember when we had this option. Stuff just wouldn't really make much sense if people were able to just delete their own posts though.

Yah, it doesn't really make sense. People should think before they post, and giving someone the ability to delete just makes it easier for converstaions to get jumbled.

It's not just when we don't think before, even when someone make a double post, or a fail post, then we could delete them.

@Zero: Ofc you can, you are a councillor.

If I remember right, JAD made a different delete function. After x days we couldn't delete/edit our own posts. Not quite sure though.

That's good, because then you can't delete/edit post when you leave or something else. If we could have the function after x days, would be really great, and i just say for reciving the option "delete", and not edit.

How about this, you can delete your own post but only before someone else posts after you. It works on other forums.

If you want a post deleted, ask a moderator. It shouldn't really be necessary.

That feature is not available in IPB without modding it, and I don't think it's worth maintaining a mod just for it.

Yes, i can ask a moderator, but when everybody ask and ask, that's annoying for them.

So you don't accept this?

Why do you need to delete your posts? If they're not worth being on the forums, don't post in the first place!

Well, first off, when you make a double post (what's not your fault), or if you make a fail post, you don't need to ask a modeartor everytime, then you can just delete it yourself.

I haven't been PM'd once about anything on the forums that needs moderating by a normal user. Given that it's the forum moderators' job to moderate the forums, I don't think you need to worry about 'annoying' them with things that need moderation. :P

There are lots of occasions where this isn't the case. Let's say person A posts in a topic. Later, other people post in the topic after reading all the other posts and each adds their own opinions and references different posts. After a while, the topic grows pretty big and the entire topic is built off of the posts that were made previously in the topic. If somewhere in the topic someone posts something that makes person A look stupid or just makes his post irrelevant from his own information/opinion, person A may try to delete his post. Now we have an issue because the whole topic was built of its original posts, and removing one of them is like removing a part of a building's foundation. After enough posts are deleted a large topic would not make any sense, or a small topic has a chunk of it absent.

Lol, i don't pm a Moderator for delete a post. ;)
And i think it's annoying for the Moderators when they recive every day a PM with "Omg PLS delete my fail/double post".

You are right with this, but then it's abusing this "Power", and then JAD could remove that "Power" from this Member.

but hey. its spam if you don't do anything anyways.
might as well make it blank to use up less room and to let others just skip past your post without having to read
"really sorry for double post, not spamming, its was a bad internet connection, etc."

Well how do we know if someone is abusing it if there is no evidence to show for it (they delete their posts, we can't see them)?

Failure to adhere to any of the following rules, irrespective of whether you are in the clan or not, will result in warnings, and/or post restrictions.
  • No spamming. Ever.
    Examples include:
    • Empty posts, posts that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are spam, either to annoy, advertise or increase a member's post count.
    • Pointless threads such as "lyke 0mg! am i good? tell me!" or "I bought a pen"

There is your answer. Forum Rules.

Look, when someone delete a post, and it's just for fun or something else, then it's abusing, and i'm sure JAD can see when someone delete a post, or edit it.

I don't think even JAD can see when a post is deleted. Besided, even if they could they would be required to moderate the forums for this sole issue.

How often do you need to delete a post anyway?

I can't remember if I've ever double-posted on here, and I rarely post things I wish to retract.

Just think before you post.
