We understand that many people were unhappy about the removal of ranks at the end of October last year. One of the main things people complained about was the fact that there was nothing to strive for in Wildfire and that it'd just be playing CS:S. We've now come up with a solution that we hope you'll enjoy.

The Council

There will be an elected council of 12 members who will serve to be a decision-making body within the community. This council may create/amend the server rules, recruitment rules, a subset of the forum rules, delegation of power/admin features etc.

Nominations
For the inaugural elections, the nomination window will be 7 days. Afterwards, nominations will be open at all times between elections. Members will not need to re-nominate themselves between elections, but may withdraw their nomination if they wish.

Elections:
There will be elections every 2 months that last for 7 days. Each election will only deal with half of the council (i.e. 6 seats), except for the inaugural vote which would be for all 12 of the seats. The first 6 seats up for re-election will be the 6 council members who received the lowest number of votes.

Voting:
Each member will choose the 7 people (i.e. number of available seats plus 1) they think will be best suited to sit on the council, and mark them in order of preference. The top 6 would then be granted sets at the council. If there is a tie, "JAD" will cast the deciding vote. Members are not be allowed to vote for themselves.

Council Structure:
Once all seats on the council have been filled, the 12 council members will then decide who to elect as their chairperson. If there's a tie in the vote for chairperson, JAD will cast the deciding vote. The chairperson will cast the deciding vote in any split decisions amongst the council. The chairperson will also be the primary contact between the council and JAD.
The council is free to organise itself however it pleases.

Removal From The Council
Council members will be subject to removal by JAD or a 2-3rds majority vote by the council.
If a council member resigns or is removed, the seat shall lie empty until the next election.
The seat will be filled regardless of which half of the council is up for election.

Council Decisions:
The council's decisions are binding upon all members, including members of the council.
Council decisions may be put up for referenda at the discretion of the council.
The decisions may be overturned by JAD if they deem necessary.

Procedure
  • Nominations shall open today and will last for one week.
Candidates will be able to start canvassing for support.
Upon nomination a thread will be automatically created for the candidate in the Canvassing forum.
    • This thread is to be used as the main Question and Answer session for the candidate.
    • This thread is only for discussion on this candidate.
All members will be able to post anything related to the elections in the Election Discussion forum. This includes 'political party' discussion and general discussion on policies, ranks etc.
  • Nominations will close but canvassing will continue for a further week.
  • The Canvassing forum will close and voting will open for one week
  • Once the voting is completed the winning members will be promoted.
The existing canvassing threads will be archived and replaced with fresh threads.
Nominations will re-open until the canvassing period of then next election (in 2 months time) takes place.

How to nominate yourself for election

You can withdraw from the elections at any time by going back to the nomination page.

There will be another announcement when voting opens with instructions on how to vote.

uhm.. isnt here a better idea to be 11 or 13 ppl instead of 1 guy having kinda like "2" votes

except from that, great idea.. not so much "moaning" about having to wait for JAD on certain areas :P

GG
The idea behind having an even number was that half the council would be chosen again every 2 months, which means that (with the exception of the first bottom 6) each council member has a 4-month stint. Dividing by 3 would give an odd number, but either lengthen the time in office or reduce the time between elections and I was things to remain relatively stable.

get ready for a roman style dictatorship. A governing body that seems to have power (12) however in reality a few people control the choices behind the scenes (3) when the choices are bad the fall will be on the supposed governing body.

I vote we start a wildfire union to protect the common members with no power to ensure fair treatment at all times.

Democracy is a system of government by which political sovereignty is retained by the people and exercised directly by citizens. In modern times it has also been used to refer to a constitutional republic where the people have a voice through their elected representatives.

A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch, but in which the people (or at least a part of its people) have impact on its government.

I would go with republic seeing as not all members(citizens) have a say in things ;)

I think it'd be more like a constutional monarchy, with JAD being the monarch. :P

Jack: can you make it so people pick more than 7 canidates for the first election? something like 10 or 12, to make the outcome the best reflection of Wildfire's opinions.

In the inaugural vote, you'll be able to vote for 13.

Ok, thanks. And since it's easy to be off by a day or two depending on how you count- can you tell us the day that canvassing will end, voting will begin, and voting will end?

Thanks

what are the chances of Anarchy happening?

and you never know this could start as democracy and turn to a communist state, were only the council and JAD have power, and everyone else is left in the dust.
